Month List

December 2017

December 2017. Kathy, Marianne and Larry stopped by for coffee and cinnamon buns on the 6th. Shirl's kids came for the 2nd weekend of the month. We had three parties. One at Kathy and Jerry's on Friday, one at Kerri's on Saturday with the Jordan kids stopping by, and another one at Kerri's on Sunday with all of the cousins from Shirl's side of the family. Made a great family discovery through My cousin Franny Fedor showed up as my first cousin which, of course, she is. She's the daughter of my Uncle Raymond (my Mom's brother and my favorite Uncle) and Aunt Nancy Bullock. We haven't seen each other for at least 50 years. This Ancestry stuff is amazing.

November 2017

November 2017. Church services in the park started on November 3rd. We spent Thanksgiving day at home alone. Shirl was very sick with something that looked a lot like flu but is now called a viral infection. .

October 2017

October 2017. October was a quiet month and it was still fairly hot during the day. A few people came back early for the 2017-2018 "Winter" season.

September 2017

September 2017. We had a really good month with trips to New England and Florida. In early September, we went to visit with friends Joe and Carol and cousin friends Alice and David in Massachusetts and Connecticut. It was a real pleasure that Rick joined us during the visit. We went to Florida in late September to see Jim and Karen. We had a wonderful time in both places.

August 2017

August 2017. The monsoon season has been pretty mild so far in our part of Phoenix. There has been severe damage in other parts of Arizona and we lost 10 members of one family in a flash flood near Payson.

July 2017

July 2017. We took the Ulricks to the airport on the 6th. They went to a wedding of one of their grandchildren in Minnesota. We picked them up on the 27th. We have started playing Cribbage twice a week at the clubhouse. There are enough people around now that we can usually get two tables. We got together for a birthday party for Brody on the 22nd. It was fun. We found a great place for fish and chips called "The Codfather". It was started by an English family and has an English motif throughout the restaurant. The fish and chips are great but the desserts are not.

June 2017

June 2017. Had a check with my Cardiologist on the 6th and the AFib is still under control. The big event for this month was our trip to England with Mike and Bob. We had a wonderful 10 days there. The highlight of the trip for me was a ride on the "London Eye", which is a 443 feet high "Ferris wheel". The highlight for Shirl was St Paul's Cathedral. We got to spend time with our friends Pat and Marion in Devon and found the 500 year old Jordan Manor. We also visited the churches in Worcester and Gloucestershire where the Jordan ancestors were baptized, married and buried.

May 2017

May 2017. The month has started slowly and just about everyone that is leaving for the summer has gone. Bob and Ruth are still here and we've been playing a card game called Farmer's Rummy. We have started playing cribbage with Cliff and Char Simpson at the clubhouse on Wednesdays. The Celtics won their semifinal against the Washington Wizards and moved on to the Eastern Conference final series with the Cleveland Cavaliers which they lost. On the last day of May I had my annual physical and am in good health.

April 2017

April 2017. We have had a few "L Circle" coffee get together's this month as people continue to leave for the summer. Our weekly Wednesday games of Hand and Foot have come to an end until the fall. We have had lots of laughs playing with our friends Bill, Dorthy, Bob and Ruth.

March 2017

March 2017. Lots of doctor visits this month. Shirl has a new set of hearing aids. I have had a prostate reduction procedure which seems to be going very well now. Went to a Neurologist for the pain in my neck and she prescribed 7 days of steroids for me. Very good improvement in my neck motion but still have some discomfort when moving from side to side. No more treatment on the neck is planned until next year. The park church had its last Sunday service of the season on the 26th. Many of the winter residents will be leaving soon for the summer. This season seemed to fly by. Also, on the 26th, our granddaughter Emi got married at a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Laveen, AZ. The bride was stunning and the groom, Ben, is a great human being. It was a beautiful day for all.

February 2017

February 2017. We did two more presentations of the play on February 1st and 2nd. The show went over very well this year. On the fourth we had breakfast with Mike and Bob and decided that we are going to plan a trip this year to England and Ireland. We are really looking forward to getting that set up. Had a bladder check on the ninth and the bladder looks clear. Thank you Lord. Shirl and I are getting ready for this year's talent show here in the park. As usual, we will be doing a "Foster Brooks" skit. The show is going to be held on the 21st and 22nd. There will be 20 acts this year. Finished up my six weeks of physical therapy on the 17th. The pain is still there. Not sure where to go from here.
Follow up on the Talent Show -- Overall it was one of the best shows ever. That is thanks to Jim Bontrager, the director, who brings out the best in all of us.

January 2017

January 2017. We started Bible Study with Roger Withee on the fourth. He will be doing an eight week session based on the Wednesday reading of The Upper Room. Lots of play practices this month. We were all pretty shaky in our parts but were finally able to put on a performance on January 31st. People loved it. Started Physical Therapy for my neck on the ninth and will have six weeks of exercise, two times per week...
